All this week, I am celebrating Spring with a few friends, GinaKellie, Shelley and Charlotteeach day will be filled with Spring ideas! We kicked off the week with adorable little Lemon Chick Peeper Cookies!  Today Gina is sharing her Spring Mantel…hop on over and see what she did!

The old saying goes…In like a Lionout like a Lamb, referring to March weather. We have had an extremely mild March so far, we are keeping our fingers crossed that we leave the month like a lamb!

To celebrate Spring and Easter, I created some mini cupcakes for today…Lion and Lamb Easter Cupcakes!

These Mini Cupcakes are perfect for little hands and just the right amount of dessert after your big Easter Dinner! With the exception of a couple different sprinkles and the cereal ears on the Lions, the cupcakes are decorated with all frosting.

Lion Cupcakes

Supplies:

  • Mini Cupcakes, baked and cooled – I used Duncan Hines French Vanilla
  • Frosting – Dark Orange {Orange & Copper coloring mixed}, Dark Brown and Dark Yellow {Buttercup Yellow & Copper mixed}
  • Eyes – Confetti Sprinkles
  • Pupils – Black coloring & Toothpick
  • Ears – Cereal {I used Walmart brand, Apple Jacks}
  • Decorator bags
  • Tips #21 {Mane}, Tip #2 {nose} and Tip #12 {snout}

  1. Frost cupcake with dark orange frosting {I used Wilton Decorator Icing and colored it with orange and a bit of copper to make it darker}
  2. Using Tip #12 and dark orange frosting, pipe on snout. Let it set a couple minutes, run your finger under hot water and smooth it out.
  3. Fit a decorator bag with a Tip #21 {closed star} and fill it with dark orange and dark yellow {Buttercup yellow and a bit of copper}. Pipe on the mane, rotating the cupcake to get variation in the colors
  4. Add the sprinkles for the eyes. Dab a toothpick in black coloring and dot the eyes, for the pupil. Using a #2 tip and dark brown frosting, pipe on the nose and mouth
  5. Add the cereal for the ears

Lamb Cupcakes

  1. Frost cupcake with white frosting – it doesn’t have to be perfect, this is just a base, it will be covered
  2. Pipe on head with a #12 tip
  3. Pipe on small dots for fur with a #10 tip, let set a couple minutes
  4. Run your finger under hot weather, and gently pat down the points and smooth out the frosting

  6. Using Tip #352, pipe on the ears, on each side of the head {sorry you can’t see them very well}
