Graduation Cupcakes: Cupcake Tuesday

Jump to recipe!

Welcome to Cupcake Tuesday! I’m so glad to have you! I have updated the Cupcake Heaven page, there are over 100 designs and recipes! Check it out!!

We aren’t celebrating any graduations in our house this year, but I know lot of you are. My oldest graduated from High School last year, and although we didn’t have a big party, we still had some relatives and friends over, and of course, food and cupcakes.

I recently had a friend ask me to create some Graduation Cupcakes for her son. Our school colors are orange and black, but you can certainly change the colors to coordinate with the colors you need.

After hosting lots of parties, I have learned to keep the dessert simple and easy to create.

For these fun cupcakes, I used Wilton’s Graduation cupcake wrappers and picks. I frosted them using a #1M tip and added some orange sugar and chocolate jimmies.

These caps are super easy too! Last year I created the caps using chocolate covered graham crackers {Keebler brand} but I couldn’t find them this time around. So I used a ghirardelli chocolate bar for the top.

Ingredients

  • Ghirardelli Chocolate Bar or Chocolate Covered Graham Crackers
  • Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
  • M&M’s {school colors}
  • Licorice {I used orange, they come in a package with other fruit flavors}
  • Small gumdrops {school colors}

Instructions

  1. Frost cupcake.
  2. Place Reese’s upside down, add chocolate bar with small amount of frosting.
  3. Add licorice to the top with a little frosting.
  4. For the tassle, I flattened a gum drop, then using a small knife cut slits in one end, form it into a circle and attach to the licorice.
  5. Add an M&M to the top.

The diplomas are cute and a very frugal decoration too. Frost cupcake with a #12 round tip, dip the edge in colored sugar. Cut white copy paper, 2 inches wide and about 8 inches long. Roll the diploma and tie with a piece of string or thin ribbon. Place on cupcake.

Do you have a graduate that you are celebrating this year?
